Tech Studies – Physical Computing
Physical computing taught me its a way of making normal day to day objects smart. The platform we used was Arduino which was a tool I had never used. We looked at other designers work such as the Piano stairs and the Deepest bin, to me these were a prime example of making design fun, it also seemed like a quick process of creating and making. The Cloud Wash was definitely a design that will stick by in my mind due to it being a smart and modern idea yet sustainable through using a app (https://vimeo.com/87522764).
We begin by going through the basics, learning about the components we would be using such as the breadboard and the platform used to code – Arduino. I had never coded before, so I was feeling nervous but we soon got through it creating clever LED lighting, instructing them to change colours and flash at different times to create a disco light effect.
Physical computing definitely made me realise the more you know the better it can be, I think physical computing allows you to push normal ideas abnormal by making the fun and clever. I am looking forward it learning more about this tool of design and hopefully produce some objects in the future.
