I will be staying a few weeks in Kathmandu and the rest in Chitwan. To start with I am visiting a close family friend; touring the sights of Kathmandu city and having a catch up, afterwards I meet up with a Nepalese man I was put in contact with that helps run a community centre in Chitwan.
Tonight I hope to take the bus down South of Nepal towards Chitwan to meet with Basanta (if landslide effected roads are cleared and unblocked), organiser of getting me to help out in the Village community. The Village Community centre is a location for the area that helps serve a platform for the community with a library, children’s play area and hall that helps bring the community together.
My task at the centre is to help explain what Design can do; via teaching and guiding the process of making or simply guiding the method of research (e.g. research that can help bring the community together to expand the Library and create events within the Hall).
I have brought some of my hand tools from home, such as hand chisels. My current intentions is to build a String lathe that will work without electricity (link to what a String Lathe is) allowing me to work with local sourced wood and hopefully be a session of classes to teach children the process of making.
I aim to document most of my journey through photography and film.
