Today was very much like my foundation, a reminder of both what a great year it was and how not to be too precious about my work (within reason). I had to take in two objects, a wooden mallet and a ratchet. During the lesson I had to try out all drawing techniques which varied from timed drawings, mouth sketching and continues lines. Although these techniques are ones I learnt and proceeded from my foundation year, I felt more confident as a designer to do more of this in my own practise because it’s a quick and easy way to get information on paper, which can then help lead you on to new ideas.
A new technique I learnt today was how to create a ‘Hybrid’. A mixture of either two objects/ideas mixed into one. This is an effective way of inventing something new quickly especially when you place them within different situation and environments. As a designer I believe I need to use my sketchbook and pencil more as a tool, so I can start generating new ideas that strengthen my practise (its also a way of relaxing!!).
